STATE TREASURER The state treasurer collects monies from dues, applications, supplementals, transfers, donations and special events (i.e. annual state conference, summer picnic, president general visit). The monies are deposited in a banking account. He then pays the national society their charges and vendors for their services. He prepares a balanced budget and notifies the Board of Managers when the budgeted items are approaching their maximum. Chapter treasurers and secretaries are to turn in a list of current members and a check for their dues by the end of the calendar year. At large members pay national and state dues directly to the state treasurer. National dues are currently $35.00, state dues for in-state resident members are $20, out of state member dues are $11.00. Chapter dues are $10, except Pikes Peak, which is $14.
Instructions for REQUIRED ANNUAL Filing of IRS Form 990-N by State and Chapter Treasurers:
This is a reminder to complete the above referenced subject using your chapter's EIN (federal Employer tax Information Number).
It is basically a sworn statement by you in the office of chapter treasurer, that your chapter as a 501(c)(3) did not have gross receipts over $25,000 for the subject year and no further supporting documentation is required. There is no cost.
You can either use the login id and pw of your predecessor (if these records were supplied), or create your own:
It takes about a half hour for the system to respond with a confirmation to the email address you supply, and you should keep a hard copy of the accepted form for the chapter records.
The deadline for filing is May 15 of each year, assuming the chapter's fiscal year is Jan1-Dec31.
Executing this filing annually prevents potential reclassification as a private 501(c)(3) by the IRS if not filed for three consecutive years. If the latter occurs, it is very difficult to recover, as detailed accounting records must be supplied.
Thanks for your attention to this matter,
COSSAR State Treasurer
